Garth's Lady

At her peak, before she had friends in low places, Trisha Yearwood had a string of agreeable hits including "She's in Love With the Boy," "Xxx's and Ooo's (An American Girl)" and "How Do I Live," the latter of which completely overmatched LeAnn Rimes' version. Unlike fellow '90s stars Terri Clark and Jo Dee Messina, Yearwood's songs didn't rest on trite clichés and late-era Heart riffs but on simple, zesty melodies that were some of the rare bright spots on country radio during that time. Yearwood's hits were never particularly ambitious, but they wrapped colorful details of small-town life inside loopy, catchy choruses. In fact, my guess is I got you to sing one of them right now. Trisha Yearwood plays 7 p.m. Monday at Bass Performance Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Tickets are $52.50 to $100. Call 817-212-4280 or visit basshall.com.
