Kenny and the Kasuals

Tuesday, September 11, at Lewisville Olde Town

If you're digging around in your mom's attic and stumble across an LP called The Impact Sound of Kenny and the Kasuals Recorded Live at the Studio Club, hold on to it. The sucker is worth about $400, and with good reason: Kenny and the Kasuals are a legendary Dallas band, credited by some for recording the first "psychedelic" song, "Journey to Tyme," a kick-in-the-pants, fuzzed-out swirl of a tune that predicted both Nuggets and Iggy Pop. Only 500 copies of Impact were pressed, and it's been deemed one of the most collectible records ever.

K&K are still at it, playing a few gigs here and there around town, reminiscing about sharing the stage with everyone from the Association to the Cars (rumor has it they were asked to open for the Beatles at Shea Stadium). Catching them live just to hear "Journey" is well worth it, but fortunately, K&K boast a slew of almost equally cool originals in addition to the cover songs with which they began their career.
