An Exercise in Pride

This writer would like to clear up a few things

Ahem. A few weeks ago, an item appeared in this section concerning a screening of the 2005 film version of Pride & Prejudice, in conjunction with the Dallas Theater Center's ongoing production of a stage version of the Jane Austen novel, adapted by Catherine Sheehy. A certain writer may have inadvertently created an incorrect impression about his interest in Regency England and Austen's works by noting that he has read P & P on 300 or so occasions, and by stating a preference for Matthew Macfadyen over Colin Firth as actors who have played the role of Mr. Darcy. Although this writer takes a wide stance in his tastes in literature, let him assure you that despite the fact that Macfadyen has dreamy eyes, this writer's attention was always focused on the character of Elizabeth. That Keira Knightley is a slammin' babe, snort, snort, scratch. Those of you who are not manly men may, however, delight in the wit, passion and romance onstage as the Bennet sisters struggle to overcome various obstacles on their ways to the altar. You may be curious as to how Sheehy adapts a novel whose plot frequently develops in the pages of letters written by the characters. Not this guy. He'll be at home watching Spike TV. The play continues through September 23 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd. Single ticket prices range from $16 to $60.
