Winging It

Some kids get to fly inside the house

I've seen exactly one live butterfly in the past few years. Seeing a Giant Swallowtail was a rare sight—living in East Dallas, I'm privy to a different kind of wildlife. For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to be greeted at our doors by Monarchs and Question Marks, the seasonal Butterfly House at Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park (3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) will allow us to walk in the midst of hundreds of butterflies native to Texas. Afterward we can get tips on how to attract our own fliers in the Butterfly Display Garden. Skies of Butterflies will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for the next two weeks, with extended hours during the State Fair. Admission is $3 plus Fair fees. Call 214-428-7476 or visit texasdiscoverygardens.org.
Mondays-Fridays, 2-5 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 17. Continues through Oct. 21, 2007
