See some queer comedy in Fort Worth

We dykes aren't especially well known for our humor. I once had a queer comedian friend booed off stage at a Pride event for making a crack about lesbians and their dogs, and I was all, hello—ever hear of laughing at yourself, as she was pelted with vegan cookies and hemp products.

Fortunately, some lezzie ladies are coming to that bastion of gayness—er, Fort Worth—to crack the dour dyke stereotype wide open. The Queer Queens of Qomedy (hey, nobody said we could spell) features some funny-ass ladies, many of them Texans. Laredo's Sandra Valls, who is a regular on Showtime's Latin Queens of Comedy and Galveston's Que Locos, brings her South Texas shtick, while Vickie Shaw brings her fearless tell-it-like-it-is bits along. The show's host and producer, Poppy Champlin (who the Chicago Sun-Timescalls "blisteringly funny") emcees the whole affair. So put on your best Tevas, ladies, and let's have a good time. Hemp products optional. The show starts 8 p.m. Saturday at the Scott Theatre, 1300 Gendy St. in Fort Worth. Tickets are $20 to $35. Visit queerqueensofcomedy.com.
Sat., Sept. 22, 8 p.m., 2007
