Just because it's September doesn't mean you can't celebrate October. That's the way they do it in Addison, where the concrete is all shiny, the chain restaurants are king and calendars don't mean a damn thing. Save the date—in Addison, April Fool's will be in May. Oh, wait...a cursory check on Google reveals that Oktoberfest always starts in September. My bad. Turns out, our Deutsch friends made their last big batch of beer in March, before the summer months made brewing too challenging. They then spent the last weeks in September and the first in October depleting the old supply at a feverish pace to make room for fresher libations coming in after harvest. So, I guess the folks in Addison aren't thumbing their noses at tradition with their OktoberFest 2007. Instead, they're pulling on the lederhosen the way it was meant to be done, and handing out beer, wieners and sauerkraut to their hearts' delight. The cool September nights (God willing) will bring forth polka and German folkdance, singing, and children's entertainment (perhaps some Eierlauf?), so put on your best dirndl or tracht and head to Addison Circle Park, 4970 Addison Circle Park. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 6 p.m Sunday. Discount tickets are available at all DFW Tom Thumb stores.
