Junot Diaz created a lot of literary buzz with his award-winning collection of short stories, Drown. This kind of early critical acclaim could mean a couple of things. Either he's going to have a long and successful literary career or his book was a flash in the pan. What we can be sure about is that literary acclaim does not equal wealth and fame. Diaz is currently teaching creative writing at MIT. Isn't that what all writers do when their books aren't paying the bills? We'll soon have a better idea where his writing career is headed, though. Diaz's first novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, comes out this month. Diaz will be on hand to discuss his new book 7 p.m. Friday at Borders Preston/Royal, 10720 Preston Road. Call 214-363-1977.
