Recovery Is A Must

We've mourned the loss of the Good-Latimer tunnels. We've been saddened by Gypsy's demise and with that the loss of Frank Campagna's "upcoming shows" murals on its walls. But all hope is not lost. Thanks to the Deep Ellum Foundation and Deep Ellum Association's Re*Cov*Er Deep Ellum mural series (spearheaded by Campagna), we get a fresh new look at some legendary and beloved Dallas musicians. You may have noticed for the last week local artists toiling on the walls of Elm Street (don't worry, Main and Commerce streets, you'll get yours next year) and painting the faces of Dimebag Darrell, Leadbelly, Gibby Haynes, The New Bohemians, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others. Saturday, between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., their work pays off (for some, literally) when 10 celebrity judges will evaluate the murals and name first-, second- and third-place winners, awarding them handsome prizes at a special ceremony at Kettle Art, 2714 Elm St. (Stick around for the opening of Collaboration group exhibit at 7 p.m.) Call 214-573-7622 or visit kettleart.com and savedeepellum.org.
