El Peligro 04/09/2008 10:33:00 PM
Greg Williams was an anchor on the ass end of The Hard Line, adrift without on-air support for his partners. Talentless and clueless. I cannot tell you how many times I turned the radio off after he made an inane comment, or three, or four. He never had his facts straight. Never. Not once. He was consistently an idiot. He should have been let go long before any alleged personal problems, drug related or not. Now that he's gone, the show is better, at least in the fact that Danny brings to it some intelligence along with his 40 year old malaise and curmudgeonly attitude. I'm glad Williams is gone. I can listen to the show all the way home without turning it off. Sorry Greg. You had a gig and blew it. If he was actually any good on his own, someone else would pick him up. Has anybody done that yet? Will anybody do that ever? Maybe if he moves to Monahans.....

I love the chemistry between Greg, Mike, Corby and line 4 man. I would not like to see it change, it feels like coming home. Having said that, some radio - tv - other types of entertainment venues do manage to make the loss of a major player work and I would hope that it will here, but I'm still hoping for a happy ending with all the guys back together. There are so few addicts that can stay rehabilitated that odds are, his days are numbered. Hope we can have our little miracle - A P1 and Hen Chick - too old to be a Chicken Chick. Rosalie

I miss Greggo. As an older ticket chick, I originally thought the Ticket was nothing but morons. Now I ask my husband if he heard such and such on BAD Radio, or the Hard Line. The comment about how can someone with a 6 figure income mess it up due to drugs should realize that people with 7 figure incomes do the same thing. Drugs don't discriminate based upon income. People with 4 or 5 figure incomes figure out ways to get drugs. Having more money probably just makes it easier. I would like to see if Greggo is as funny straight as he was f'd up. Love Corby and Ryner, miss Greggo. Godspeed, Greg Williams..... you taught me that there is a lot of humor in what sounds like frat night....

Its a sad state of affairs, that drugs again has taken joy from not only the listers lives, but the life of Greggo. Sure he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but as a charter P 1 I can tell you, his wit such as it was and some of his comments were priceless! I'll never forget him saying, (hard not to agree) " Anyone talking on a cell phone while driving should get the Death Pentalty" Its so easy for all the dogooders to say " you pissed your job away" but if addiction is easy to stop, why then is drugs a trillion dollar a yr business in this country? God Bless you my son, we and the ticket will miss you greatly, and don't ever believe anyone that says you don't have a place in Radio.

Everybody remembers Greggo's comments about Barry Bonds and Michael Irvin for the drug use but I haven't seen any reference to him bashing Carnie Wilson for getting the weight loss surgery "because she's too FAT!!!" (with heavy emphasis on the word fat). You're 2 for 2, Greggo. Just don't pick on someone for being gay because you're running out of feet to stick in your mouth.

As of 5:10pm, The Ticket website shows that Greg Williams as resigned. http://www.theticket.com
And Beth, drug use is not a disease. It's a choice and in Greg's case, a bad choice.

Will it look like he is gone for ever. If you look at the Tickets web site they have removed all traces of him. It now list the "HARDLINE" as Mike Rhyner & Corby Davidson.
-
Drew "the oily Neopolitan" Gre 01/09/2008 10:41:00 PM
I think the show is better with Corby as Mike's partner. Greg was, and had been for a while, mailing it in. He brought nothing to the show unless you like slurred speech, red neck opinions, uninformed statements and facts that couldn't be proven. He was a fraud. Mike should be wearing a back brace after carrying him for all these years.
-
David Duke 12/31/2007 5:06:00 AM
Good riddance, One less Red-neck on the air! Funny how he criticized Barry Bonds for his APPARENT drug usage. Payback is a bitch...Stopped listening to THE TICKET when it got RID of ALL of its Black talk show hosts.
-
Beth 12/27/2007 1:14:00 AM
Good luck Greggo. I wish you luck in conquering this disease. And I look forward to hearing you again soon. Wish I could give you a hug.
-
JD 12/23/2007 4:16:00 PM
Truthfully, I'd like the show better without him. One of the most embarassing and pathetic things I've ever heard was this man not be able to complete a sentence ost times without somehow trying to seek approval from his co-host Rhyner. Almost like a child trying to constantly seek validation from his parent. I can't tell you how many comments I heard started or ended with "Hey Rhynes..." or "isn't that right Rhynes?"
You said (jokingly, I think) that he was finally admitting he was gay. I honestly need to ask "Is he?", cuz only a gay man could abase himself publicly in such a way "day in, day out". Also just how he would bash Mike Irvin or Barry Bonds is enuf for me to say "good riddance hypocrite". Save some money..promote Cobra to full partner..and oh by the way can that talentless bag known as Dan McDowell in favor of Donovan and I think this will be the healthy change needed to evolve and go on

Evan Browne 12/22/2007 11:48:00 PM
Several points:
1) Yes, how can someone f'up a 6-figure income on the radio with a drug problem? Yes, he has pissed on what has (had).
2) For every athlete he's ragged on for drugs (from pot to coke to 'roids - even an alcoholic), he owes them an apology because now we know he is no better.
3) Yes, I believe we should all get a second chance, but I also know that I would be canned from my job if drugs interfered with my work. On a level just below that of a professional athlete or actor, he is a local celebrity, so he'll get a pass & get his job back.
4) The best thing about The Hardline was Greggo. Their talk of actual sports has diminished over the years with bits here and there and everywhere & he was hilarious. He made the show.
5) With the above said, The Hardline now talks about sports even less frequently now that Greggo is gone, so the entire show should just be canned. Unless like things "yucked" up.
Trust me on #5. Work moved me to Houston back in April & I just now moved back two weeks ago. On the way home from work each day, I've listened to Greggo-less Hardline with very little actual sports talk. It seems like the Russ Martin show.

My God, this Richie Whitt article made me want to vomit. What is his problem? This guy sounds like such an arrogant jerk. Nevermind the subject of the article (The Hammer's demise), which appears to be a front for his true agenda. All these little jabs at The Ticket, making it out to be the same as any run of the mill "shock jock" format, and about nothing more than girls, sex and general frat party tomfoolery. I suppose all the listeners must be idiots or childish morons, or both, and clearly a few levels below the intelectual prowess of one Richie Whitt. Richie, you don't get it. The Ticket's approach to talking about things like most guys would talk about things to each other, whether they be at a frat party, or a couple of attorneys or doctors at a North Dallas club, is subtle genius, and it works, and it's real. That's why it's so popular. As a listener, when I turn from the ticket to any other station, AM or FM, and here the ridiculous overlaughter and truly childish attempts at humor based only on shock value, which simply is not funny, then I realize why The Ticket is the best sports talk station anywhere. Richie, you just don't get it.
-
rick 12/22/2007 6:08:00 AM
he should get another shot. he's an anchor on the station and they need his caveman mentality.
korby sucks. he has the "over cusser" and repro man. that's it, nothing else. his e-news stories come from hollywood web sites and are weak.
his vocabulary is lacking. he frequently re-uses words he just learned from ryner.
the hardline won't be the same and i won't listen.

Acid test - Can "Greggo" return from rehab, don the headphones, and proceed to bag on steroid-using baseballers?
Technically speaking, yes, absolutely, he can (albeit standing comically on only one of his cantelope-calved legs).
Points to consider:
Greg was/is/always will be a (hopefully recovering) addict. He has an addictive personality, and most would agree that such addiction qualifies as a disease (if you don't think so, you're in the LaSorda camp referenced far below). There's lots of "hard" science saying this is a disease.
The drugs which induced the two Greg rehab stints I know of, cocaine and Lorcet, respectively, are psychoactive and highly ADDICTIVE. This point isn't surprising, but merely establishes that Greg was hooked on really addictive drugs and was not merely addicted to jogging or jarring or wanking - or some such(!)
[Queue the Jr. Miller tympani solo]. Not all illicit (or abused or psychoactive) drugs are classified as "addictive". Allow your sports brain to consider two GREAT examples of non-psychoactive, NON-ADDICTIVE drugs - "The Clear" and HGH. You don't use them because you "need a fix". There isn't a classical, addiction-based, deep-seated physiological/psychological driver at play as in chemical addiction. Rather, you continue to use them because you wake up every morning and say "I've got to CHEAT like the rest of them if I want to keep my Ferrari and my house in Malibu - and, by the way, it is fun to rope a fastball to left field".
Back pain issues are a hellaciously bad deal to have to live with (look up "nerve-generated pain"). They place one permanently close to the precipice of addiction. I know this personally, and for those of you who don't, I wouldn't wish it on you except in a dream you could wake up from, edified. It plays a part here - Greg has to find creative non-drug-related methods to crank up his dopamine, serotonin, etc., and his exercise regimen is already limited by his back.
Resolved that this writer is a "friend of Bill" who is on the fairway and out of the woods. I see the fairway as all goodgood and sweet and clean. I see the woods for what they are - a bad lie.
Conclusions (based on rational assembly of above points):
1) We must separate every discussion of drug abuse into "addictive" and non-addictive abuse before we have an appropriate perspective worthy of enunciating to an enlightened audience. (If you cant comprehend the foregoing, stop reading and SHUT UP).
2) Assuming that the collective Ticketdom can arrive at #1 above, Greg can return and forge a comical, comfortable and vital continuance of his good works, playing the part of designated driver/joke butt/addiction specialist - and, yes, he can bag on steroid abusers as cheating abusers of the great game (as long as he then commiserates with Darryl Strawberry/Roy Tarpley/Ricky Williams types HIS type).
A couple of parting points to consider...
* Some of the most humor-rich people I've ever seen are at "meetings". Greg should be very entertaining if he's truly fixed.
* Tommy LaSorda once said "people who use drugs don't have a sickness - they have a WEAKNESS - they're WEAK people." Whether or not it's accurate, I think this brush paints both types we've discussed above.
* Corby's extemporaneous lyrics, delivered Thursday over a Rhyner-foisted, limp-wristed Fogelberg song (something like "I cut off my own sack, and carved a vagine") earned him another few years of my unmitigated worship. I was sick in bed and managed to eject quite a bit of sputum laughing over that.
Gotta go - time for another fix of...of...DAMMIT, HONEY, WE'RE OUT OF BEN & JERRY'S AGAIN!!! GODALMIGHTY!!! @#$%!!!!

How sad for the guys at the Ticket to be put in the center of a corporate mess of a friend. I feel sorry for them. I love Greggo and the chemistry of the show and miss him there. I hope he recovers and I hope that his coworkers want him back and that if he wants to come back he gets the chance. Good Luck guys hope it all works out for everybody.

Larry Bob 12/22/2007 3:08:00 AM
When The Ticket first went on the air, I was hungry for sports talk; the daily dose of Randy Galloway on "The Big One" wasn't enough for me. Greggo was the only original on-air personality I had ever heard of (not counting Skip Bayless, because he's not worth counting); he was the true "star" of the station back then, and I imagine he had a lot to do with the early success. The Hardline, in my opinion, was far and away the best show on The Ticket, and I made it a point to listen as often as possible.
Let me state up front that I've never worked in radio and I don't have a degree in broadcasting, so I won't attempt to dissect and analyze the show and figure out where it went wrong. All I know is, over the years, I found myself becoming much more interested in listening to The Musers & Bad Radio than I was in listening to The Hardline, and Hammer seemed to be the one that was dragging the show down. This is just my opinion, I know he's got a lot of loyal fans and friends who would disagree vehemently with my assessment. Not that I dislike Greggo; I just feel like he offered less and less to the show as time went by.
This brings me to my point: Quite a few people seem to think there's a lot of sorriness going on at The Ticket as far as his friends and co-workers "dropping him in his time of need". Those people might need to tap on the brakes a little bit; none of us knows the whole story and we probably never will. We don't know how long the Hammer has been battling his demons OR how long (and to what extent) his friends and co-workers have been carrying him. As a disciplinary representative for co-workers at my place of employment, I've learned over the years that things are seldom how they seem on the surface. There are ALWAYS 2 sides to every story, and the person (or people) who have bent over backwards to try to help their co-workers are usually the ones who are made out to look like the "bad guys" when things finally come to a head. This is not meant to sound like an indictment of Greggo, but I doubt this is a case of his friends and co-workers "dropping him" over an isolated incident.
Or, maybe I'm wrong. Whatever. Regardless of how this all pans out, I'll still have my car radio tuned to 1310. Sometimes change is necessary, I think this is probaly one of those times.

Mr. Q 12/22/2007 2:25:00 AM
So you don't want anyone after 5:10 today to ask you anything more about the Greggo situation, huh? Look ASS HOLE, it was YOUR station that you helped put together that coddled Greggo the first time and led to YOUR station being put in this situation...so FUCK OFF!!! And to take things one step further, I was 100x more entertained today by Black n' Quack then I have been in the Hardline for going on about 2 years now. So shove that up your ass you old washed up DJ!!! Look out that window...know what I see? I see 10,000 drummers who can sing like they are falling out of a tall tree...so SUCK IT!!!

Spaghetti Ashes 12/21/2007 8:41:00 PM
Greggo's got obvious problems but I don't think it's right to turn on him. The dude needs people's support.
He was such a great source for color commentary. I think people are really undervaluing what he brought to the Hardline. True, I don't like the show when it's just him and Corby, but I think that's a testament to the greatness of Rhynes, not a poopoo on Greggo.
Give the guy a break. I think he'll clean up if the Ticket gives him another shot at it.
BRING THE HAMMER BACK!

Michael Twilley 12/20/2007 10:28:00 PM
There is nothing worse than someone who can't handle their drugs. He just needs to do a better job at hiding his usage like I do with my fiancee Sage. God she is a dumb.
-
Greg A 12/20/2007 2:55:00 AM
Whether or not Greggo has a drug problem, I hope he gets himself together and returns to the airwaves. We all make mistakes, and unfortunately repeat the same ones, but he recognized his issues and is dealing with them. I'm hoping that the Little Ticket will open their arms to him again, but with strict guidelines.
Stay strong Greg and get better!
-
Mark 12/17/2007 10:56:00 PM
That fat hick deserves to be fired. He was at the station for 13 years and couldn't do a show by himself. He would talk about some sports point and would have to be corrected by the others many times. I say good riddance to that loser.
-
Michael Dunham 12/15/2007 11:19:00 PM

I have been out of the Dallas area for about three years but still listen to the Ticket on a faithful basis. I am sick to hear abour Greggo and his problems and wish for nothing but the best for him. Any of you sacks of shit that do not understand addiction have no clue about the real world that we live in. Addiction is a disease and with help, guidance, and support from real friends and family one can conquer their demons. I don't know the circumstances but feel like I have lost a friend that really needs help and supportive words. To me a huge ticketchick, Greggo was a main ingredient of the Ticket and without him it is just not the same. Drugs can destroy lives much less a career but until you live with the demons that he has lived with "SHUT THE F*** UP". I hope that the Ticket "Family" stands behind him. I miss you Greggo and want to hear your bumbling voice again soon. Stay Hard!

Don't bring him back.
I'm a loyal P1 from the word go. I've listened to The Ticket from day 1. Skip Bayless opened it up and I never quit listening. I've won contests, been on trips, gone to Ticket events, and advertised the station by wearing Ticket apparrel. But the things Grego hates about people are the same things he been doing behind the scenes! When you live in a glass house - Don't throw rocks!

As was pointed out above, drug/alcohol addiction is NOT a disease. No "addiction" is a disease.
That said, Greggo needs to do the right thing and hang up the mic. He's ruined his credibility and there's a good chance he'll never get it back. We're talking about the Ticket. Not the best place to get through something like this. The first time he was prescribed drugs by a doctor and things got out of hand. Fine. That happens. We understand. But cocaine? Come on dude... you're not in high school any more. There's absolutely no excuse for getting involved in that scene, and he knew what was at risk by doing it.

Well written article. Unlike the rest of that boring long crap you read in this paper. Richie you get it and should move on to bigger and better things soon.

P1_Jason 12/06/2007 4:26:00 PM
You know, I used to really get bothered by the things the hammer said. I mean, he's not the brightest bulb in the tree, and he knows it. And if you get him flustered, his entire scene just crumbles. He depth of knowledge always seemed to be thin, except for baseball, but he seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
That said, however, sometimes when he would speak, I would cringe and just think, "Shut up, dude."
Regardless. I don't really mind listening to more Corby and Danny. It really doesn't bother me at all. It's a nice break, and they will bring Greg back. Corby and Danny at least try, and I give them credit for that. They do a pretty good job of it too.
I hope Greg comes back, but I will mist the Corby time. Of course, I am in his generation (X) and we see eye to eye on a lot of stuff.

POV 12/06/2007 3:39:00 AM
SoAnyone listening to the hardline around 6:30 tonight?
Well, long story short, Rhynes and Corby are talking about the baseball trades that went down over the course of the past few days.
Last, but not least, they were discussing a Ranger spare named Guzman.
Corby chimes in with wasnt Greggo high on this guy?
Rhynes answers in agreement
Corby retorts, yea, we know Greggo loves speed
After another brief retort from Rhynes, you could hear a snicker coming from the background, obviously Corby.
I am not on this save ferris bandwagon they are parading for Greggo across this site, Goron Keith's, et al.
Corbys comments though were classless to say the least. I hope someone in upper management took note.

It seems unfair (to say the least) that ordinary folks that aren't teflon coated personalities would no doubt lose their jobs and god knows what else with idiotic indiscretions like drug abuse and similar transgressions. Personalities like Williams ought to be held to the same standards.

Javier Sandoval 12/05/2007 7:59:00 PM
Thank you for the insight on this ongoing saga. Like your articled stated we P1's depend on the genuine honesty that we have come to expect from the Hardline as well as The Ticket. It is a little frustating not knowing what was going on for the past month or so and only hearing that "we will address this at some point" from the on air personality's. Although they have stated that because of legal ramifications they were not able to address the situation, I look forward to hearing what they have to say now that published reports are out. I wish Grego the best and hopefully he can beat his addiction, because after all we are talking about a human being's life here. Stay Hard!!

Get Greggo back. He is the heart of The Hardline. His problems only make him real. He is funny, and without him, the show has suffered. The snake has good commentary, but Greggo has real ideas about the world that make the show great. Greggo, come on back. No hard feelings. Get straight. Just like I would tell a good friend with problems, we are your buddies, and you can lean on us in hard times.

whofarted? 12/04/2007 4:29:00 AM
The last time I saw Greggo, he was on TV, in a studio, doing some Cowboys post-game show and he looked NOTHING like the photo from this article. He was at least 50 lbs lighter, sporting patchy and goofy-assed mutton chops, grinding his teeth and SWEATING LIKE A MAD MAN.
It looked totally weird (and sad) to see his eyes darting all around like that. At first, I thought he was just looking for correct camera to speak to, but then it dawned on me -- he looked like Bobby Brown did during that Barbara Walters' interview with him and Whitney Houston.
What a waste.

I didn't have time to drain my full life force by reading every comment. But a comment to those who said they've switched to ESPN. Stay over there! You obviously don't get the Ticket and are not P1's. The only reason a true P1 would ever switch to the Evil Empire would be to hear a Mav's game. Lock it in and rip the knob off.
-

It sounds to me by the writing in this article, that the writer has an axe to grind with the Ticket and it's host. I do not know whta happened to Greggo just like the majority of the listening audience, but I do know he, just like anybody else deserves the benefit of the doubt and deserves to come back. Yes a devoted P1.

I'm a 8-10 year listener and its just not the same without the Hammer. I agree that Rhynes esp. is a hypocrite and a self-serving sarcastic, big-headed head of the Ticket. Even though you'd think he and Greggo were best friends; personally i think he only cares about ratings. He jokes on air more me and how he hates the P1 and Cowboys' fans, but I think there is a lot of truth to that. Anyone who has ever left or been fired by the Ticket was never talked about again even out of professional courtesy (Big Dick Hunter, The Hot Spot, etc.) Now that the down home Greggo is gone there is less sports talk and a little too much of the hosts talking about themselves. I think the honesty and connection with the P1 is going away. I don't know if its complacency or loss of chemistry but the Hardline is definitely 1/2 as good as before Gregg Williams left. The rumor I heard was Rhynes told him to get cleaned up or don't come back at all.

TinMan 12/01/2007 10:10:00 PM
Of all the comments I've read in the various forums/comments sections over the past few weeks, #161 above I think summarizes the status of the show better than any I've read. I like all the players on the show, but in the case of Corby and the Black Cloud I like them in smaller doses.
I don't think the Hammer can return at this point; his credibility is ruined with the rest of the crew (don't go talking about 2nd chances, either...it's probably closer to 6 or 7. How many shots does one guy get?).
I'm gonna miss the ol' Hammer, but it will never be the same if he comes back. Better to find someone else, even if it takes two or three tries to find the right chemistry, then to try to force it with the old crew.

Yup. Gotta agree. Seems like the beginning of the end for the little Hardline.

Johnson County Bastard 12/01/2007 3:59:00 PM
I fear we are seeing the beginning of the end for the Hardline dominance of the station. I like Corby as a yuk, but not as a mainstay. I don't care for drunken frat boy rhetoric in such large doses. Danny is a douche bag, but is useful in very limited instances. Mike has asked for specifics on why some feel the show is in decline. It is because Mike Rhyner is noticeably less enthusiastic about his job, it has been evident for several months now. He has ceded the show to Corby and Danny's too hip attitude. It ain't hard no more, it's a frat house. I don't think Greggo will be back. You can't mend the chemistry at this point. The drive time show is headed the way of Russ Martin with co douches Davidson and Bayles driving the the show now. So Long Hardline, you are missed.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who wants to be rid of Sweet Greggo, as badly as they say they do at least, is keeping up with all the articles on what's going on with him. I'd think people who want him gone would actually just be listening to the station and enjoying his absence. Which leaves me with only one conclusion: We all want him back!
The hardline can't be the hardline without Greggo. Safe and speedy recovery to Greggo, get your arse back on the air ASAP.
And let he who is without sin cast the first stone... just saying...

Rob 11/29/2007 10:30:00 PM
I can't believe they will let Greg return after this. He knows absolutely nothing about sports, contributes very little to the show, and he just basically sucks as a radio host period. The show has actually been better without him to be quite honest. I may actually stop listening between 3-7 when he returns.

Sports Jorkts 11/29/2007 10:21:00 PM
Greggo helped build the ticket, there is no denying that. I have been a listener since 96. He put a lot of sweat, blood, and tears into the Ticket. I must say though, for the last two years or so he has brought nothing to the table. Either his love for sports has died, or he has been stoned out of his mind. No matter what the cause he has really been holding up the HL and they need to loose the baggage. I wish we had the Greggo of old, but just as we have lost Rhyner we have lost the Hammer.

JP Swank 11/29/2007 10:00:00 PM
Good luck Greg. I have been in the same boat but I beat it without rehab. The temptation will always be there however as you get older your body won't tolerate the abuse so eventually you have to quit. Sometimes you have to weed the garden and get rid of some friends who are not doing you any favors. I finally had to do that very thing with one of my oldest high school buddies who never grew up. It was tough thing to do but I had to get ugly with him and he doesn't come around anymore. Listen to those that love you and take control of your ship.
We have never met but I listen to the Ticket and you are missed.

I used to love Hammer Greggo so much that it made my loins quiver with love mess. Since Sweet Greggo of Greggoville has left me I must declare my Love for Dallas Fanning.... Without his love and support I dont think I could have quit him.... Great Odom's Raven I love Dallas F. so much that I would hack my liver out with a dull stick just to taste his sweet lips again.

Professional sport entertains. Talk radio, for the most part, entertains. Shouldn't sport-talk radio be there to entertain? Who cares what morals the hosts, producers, marketing folk, etc. live by in their daily lives (barring those decisions that can harm others)? I miss Mr. Williams' contributions to the radio program, and hope he can "get his head right" with drugs.

Back before all of this S**t went down, I thought that something was wrong with the Hammer! I said to myself, "Man, Hammer has a really bad cold or something and he is talking weird!" In the back of my mind I thought, Hammer sounds just like some friends of mine did when they were all Coked up! I guess I was right. Hammer, I wish you well and good luck with overcoming this problem!

The Hardline without Greggo is like the ocean without water - it's not what it says it is.
I don't know if the marginalization of Greggo over the past couple of years was his own doing or the insipid decision to give Corby/Danny more on-air time. What I do know is that Greggo was good and Corby/Danny are awful - and, I say this as a season-ticket holding OU football fan, Corbites.
The Hardline has degenerated into nothing more than segments of Corby, Danny, and Mike discussing the crappy local music scene. They all suck. All of them. They suck. The Dallas music scene sucks. The people who pretend it is important and worthwhile suck.
The most refreshing thing about Greggo was that he wasn't constantly propping some local band going nowhere. And Corby, with his "hanger on"/"wanna be" status regarding The Grateful Dead and Neil Young...? Give us a break. They both suck royally.
There's nothing remotely impressive about burned out hippies who should have hung it up 25 years ago. Even less impressive is pretending to be a hardcore fan of the cartoon-like lightweights they have become. Disgusting, dirty, burned out hippies.
Anyway, since Greggo's demise, I've substantially cut down my listening time while driving home from work - sometimes not even tuning in, usually punching the dial a few minutes into another pithless segment. It's become too obscure and pointless to even put in the effort to listen.
Please, please end the suck. Greggo, get well and save these idiots from themselves and the station from itself.
Help us, Obi-wan Kengreggo...you're our only hope!

Bunterman 11/29/2007 5:25:00 PM
Great story! And as for Greggo, hey, he's not perfect, as everyone isn't perfect. It sucks that he let down his co-hosts, but the Ticket and the Hardline will continue on, with or without him. Get off his nuts!

Corporate America 11/29/2007 6:04:00 AM
Guys - let's face it. The station has long since lost it's individualism to the almighty grip of corporate america. Just look at their homepage where the enitre team is wearing Dallas Cowboy logo'ed git-ups. Think that would have happened 3-5 years ago? No way. Look how tight they are on their break times. The Dan Patrick show?!?! That would have never flown a few years back.
Although I'm still a stubborn week 1 P1 who still listens day in, day out (athough I punch out on the Dan Patrick show to listen to the Wid Ass Circus)...I'm slowly realizing the run is over.
Makes me treasure my "best of CD's" and mostly the original "Best of Hardline" casette tape signed by both Rynes and Greggo (circa 1994).

Everybody that is talking trash about Greggo needs to remember that they are not perfect either. The man made a mistake. Hurry back Hammer. It's not the HARDLINE without you. Although the mystery the past few weeks had made for great radio on the afternoon drive time talk show with sports on the ticket. More Danny. More Corby. Is the answer vaginal sliced born born?

John in Plano 11/29/2007 1:30:00 AM
So, I've swung back and forth on the bring Greggo back, hell with him situation. Plain and simple, 3-7 on the Ticket pretty much sucks now without him. Their rating have apparently hung on as many of us waited for Greg's return. Now we know how bad it can get with a heavy dose of Corby dominating, Mike sitting back mailing it in and dealing mostly with 40 liners and petty theft advisories. How many times have we heard him and Corby calling in from their freaking cell phones still driving to a remote at 3:00--Do The Like This Gig??
Now we hear today that we MIGHT find out something about the future of the show next week. Screw it, until I hear that they're worth listening to again I'm tuning out. XM and the iPod are a wonderful thing. If Cat wants to hang his future on Corby and Danny with Rhynes--good luck with all that!

Greggo: a no-talent ass-clown. Only knows Ranger baseball. Cobby and Danny know more about sports than him - sad but true.
Drop Greggo: a solid contributing factor on the current Hard-Line.
Rhynes, Corby, Danny and Co.: A product that keeps me interested. Rhynes was always good..... the others have made him great since joining (despite Greggo).
1310: Will not only survive but will (and currently does) sound better than before..... Give me Drop Greggo or actual Greggo.

The dude in post 129 could not possibly be more clueless. The success the ticket has gained over the years speaks for itself. Greggo was a large part of that success. He may very well have been the engine on that train, and not a passenger.
"Sports Sturm" is doing middays (the radio equivalent of a hotel lounge act) for a reason; sports knowledge with nothing else to back it up is dull as watching paint dry. Again, the results speak for themselves, and if Sturm were ready for prime time, he would be in prime time, be it with the ticket or someone else. Let us all remember the pre-Dan "Sturminator" days, where his big schtick was he'd "blow you up" if he didn't agree with you. Riveting radio...
That being said, I think the good times may very well have ended. This 40 something white guy has as much difficulty listenting to the Snake/Danny induced GenX jerkoff session as Rhyner has interacting with it. I think they may very well have to replace the whole show. In the meantime, I've switched over to ESPN, although I do check the ticket daily first to see if maybe some of the old magic has come back.
It was a good ride while it lasted. 14 years is nothing to sneeze at.

P1 Shawn 11/28/2007 10:00:00 AM
Not nearly enough candor here, a dearth of real feelings being expressed. On a personal level, I wish the best for Sweet Greggo, but professionally he is a real, live, walking e-brake. Perpetually "struggling" through every exchange and utterance. The Hardline is my top source for wheels off, gut busting humor, but for anyone to malign the HL sans Hammer is just disengenous. Rhynes, Snake, Black Cloud, and whoever steps in is just fine. Personally, I think K.Scott should get the gig, he's earned it and I think he adds a sound sports voice to the presentation. Hammer is an unrefined dolt with no business being on such a singularly unique and great station. I moved to Dallas in late 02, and have been a constant listener ever since, but from day one I always wondered how Greggo landed and actually held such a great position. People love the Little Ticket because it's like they're part of a huge ongoing episode of Bob Swerski's Superfans. The gap between us and the on-air personalities seems almost imperceptible oftentimes. Having said that, Greggo stretched the limits of credibility to a breaking point in my eyes. Remember that Seinfeld episode where Kramer accidentally stumbles into a white collar job? Where the president calls him in and says he's been reviewing some of his work, and that "quite frankly, it stinks." "It's almost as if you have no business training whatsoever." Kramer replies "I don't even really work here." "That's what makes this so difficult Mr. Kramer." That's the most apropos analogy I can come up with for Hammer's ineptitude. I'll accept him back, but would be happier if they'd honestly assess the show's status and see that they'd be better off with someone that possesses even a fraction of Sport Sturms' IQ, and yet isn't averse to wheels off moments on a daily basis. I've battled sinus problems before, but I thought Greggo's 3 month on-air ordeal with it was an affront to even the 1310's delightfully low professional standards for decorum. Hearing that everyday was a joke, someone should have intervened a lot sooner, especially when they knew what was up. Maybe they couldn't ax him during his treatment, but they should have given serious thought to the future ,and they should dismiss him upon his official return.

FANMAN 11/28/2007 6:15:00 AM
HE MAY HAVE GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE PAST 6MO TO A YEAR BUT THE QUALITY OF THE HARDLINE WAS FIRM AND THERE WASNT A DAY THAT WENT BY THAT I MISSED IT JUST FOR THE SLIP OF HAND BY GREG AND THE ONSLAUGHT OF BASHING THE CREW GAVE HIM FOR IT AND THE INSTANT DROPS THAT WERE MADE FROM HIM. NO AND I MEAN NO OTHER SHOW ON EARTH HAS AS MUCH INSTANT CLASSIC RADIO AS THE HARDLINE DAILY. HOW MANY OF YOU TRULY FIGHT THE STATIC JUST TO CATCH A LAUGH OUT LOUD SWERVE OFF THE ROAD PEE YOUR PANTS MOMENT. AND IF ONE PERSON SAYS THEY LISTEN FOR THE BASEBALL INSIGHT OF GREG AND RINES YOU ARE A CERTIFIED LIER. GREG HAS TO COME BACK AND THE FANS WILL OPEN THE HEARTS AND ARMS TO HIM BECAUSE THEY ARE GREAT TOGETHER AND MANY WILL CHANGE THE CHANNEL IF THEY SAY HES GONE AND MANY OF YOU WILL GREATLY REGRET THE WORDS YOU WRITE BECAUSE LIKE WATCHING A NO HITTER LIVE, OR SEEING JORDAN IN A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME LIVE IT IS SOMETHING YOU MAY NEVER SEE OR HEAR OR SMELL AGAIN. IT IS THE HARD LINE!!!!! AND I HAVE ACTUALLY PRAYED FOR HIS RETURN AND WRITTEN TO WHOEVER WILL LISTEN AT THE TICKET AND I WISH FOR YALL TO DO THE SAME FOR HIS TRIUMPHANT AND HEALTHY RETURN. GODSPEED GREGGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm torn between my love for Williams' on-air persona and my disgust over his willingness to potentially throw away a job most of us would literally starve ourselves to have.
For those of you here who marginalize Greggo's talent -- you're wrong. He's funny and sports-savvy and self-deprocating, everything he needs to be to please we generic masses who call ourselves P1s. He's the likable hick who rounds out the Hardline perfectly. I can't imagine the station without him.
That said, how many chances does a person get before the cottling should stop? Thankfully, that's not my decision to make -- but at some point, a man must be held solely responsible for his actions. I hope that, for the sake of all involved, The Hammer decides to get his act together and stay clean.

Most everyone that has commented is ridiculous! No one owes any of you "men" an explanation! Being a P1 (as I am) and listening to the Ticket religiously (as I do) does not give any of you the right to ridicule Greg or the radio station for this. NEWS FLASH...Greg Williams (our beloved Hammer) is human! Humans experience and hopefully overcome issues like drug addiction! That's what we do. We're human! Get over it boys! Oh, and by the way, no one really cares what you have to say about this anyway! Especially Greg. Good luck Greg! We miss you!

The Ticket has given my 30-something brethren and I an inimitable sports/cultural experience. I'm appreciative to all who contributed - especially the originators. So Greggo, get well, stay hard, keep jammin, and I'll be seein' ya.
