Riddell, who has lived in Dallas for 28 years but for two short stints in Portland and Wisconsin, plans to buy a home here soon with his wife, Caroline, who designs and makes jewelry for a living. Sure, they'd like a nice place with room for a workshop for Caroline. But standing with her husband on her front porch, surrounded by rosebushes and a rescued pecan tree that Riddell nursed back to health, Caroline Riddell puts her arm around her husband's waist and smiles.
Mostly, she says, "We're going to need a bigger greenhouse."
