Northern Exposure

If there's a better place to celebrate your blackness than Plano, we certainly haven't found it. After all, we've never been to Africa or Harlem, the only real competition to speak of. From 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this Sunday, the Stephanie Ward Gallery, 920 18th St., hosts a Kwanzaa celebration of suburban proportions, complete with an open stage—appropriate since they'll be focusing on the Kwanzaa principles of Kwanzaa Nia (purpose) and Kuumba (creativity)—for local musicians, poets, singers, dancers, mimes and "other talents" (just wait till you see what we do with these Ping-Pong balls, Plano!). We're also hoping for appearances by "guy that paints outer space scenes really fast with spray paint," "guy that juggles devil sticks," "guy that dances seductively with fire" and of course, Mavs Man. Call 469-229-0024 or e-mail stephaniegallery@aol.com for more information.
Sun., Dec. 30, 6-8:30 p.m., 2007
