Still Waters

The Meadows hosts a desert retrospective

Dallas painter Jerry Bywaters wrote his father a come-to-Jesus letter in 1928, explaining why he was turning his back on the world of commercial art to work in the outdoors as a studio painter. "I must be out of doors," he said, and he lived up to that promise till his death in 1989, painting the architecture, landscape and people of the Great Southwest with equal aplomb. Jerry Bywaters: Interpreter of the Southwest collects a lifetime of work through March 2, 2008, at the Meadows Museum, 5900 Bishop Blvd. Call 214-768-2516 or visit meadowsmuseumdallas.org.
Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Dec. 27. Continues through March 2, 2007
