1962 was, in fact, a very good year. Marilyn Monroe sang to the president. Ringo Starr joined The Beatles, and they debuted with "Love Me Do." The Cuban Missile Crisis began imprinting itself into all future history books. OK, I don't know how good that last part is, but you get the picture. Cinematically though, 1962 was the bomb for movie theaters and thankfully, the Dallas Public Library is taking time—as in the whole month of January—to remind us. Their film series, A Very Good Year: The Films of 1962 starts with the Academy Award-winning To Kill a Mockingbird, and if you haven't seen this by now, then you might begin questioning your educational upbringing or at least your Americanism. (It being in your Netflix queue isn't an excuse, either.) Seeing it at the library may not sound as sexy as going to the Magnolia and partaking in wine and cheese, but Mockingbird and the library just kind of go hand in hand. Besides, it's free, dang it. Mockingbird screens 2 p.m. Saturday in the fourth floor performance space at the J.
