Everyone knows Gone With the Wind. Rhett Butler, dresses made of curtains and you know what? I don't give a damn. There are GWTW collectors and obsessorsâ€”regarding the book, the movie or both. I don't get it. Call me crazy, but rarely do I have cravings for a good Civil War romance. I'm more of a present/future person, but Ron Hutchinson got me. He did it by creating a play that focuses on making a movie. You know, the behind-the-scenes goings-on. The madness to find a workable screenplay for Scarlett and Tara. Pretty sneaky. Moonlight and Magnolias is loosely based on the story of how Wind eventually swept the silver screen and at least two of its "characters" are names any movie buff would recognize: producer David O. Selznick and director Victor Fleming (look 'em up if necessary, but trust me, you know them). Theatre Arlington puts the mad dash for movie magic onstage...complete with sets that are destroyed by the end of each performance. Moonlight and Magnolias runs through February 3.
