Deep Art

Sink into Gael Stack's work

Most of the time you'd be well advised to stay away from an event titled Gaps, Sinkholes and Chasms. Sounds like the kind of thing that would only appeal to the most avid spelunker or, for the more brave at heart, to those souls who dont fear a particularly skeezy "gentleman's club." But the Gaps, Sinkholes and Chasms I'm talking about is totally on the up-and-up, even though there is someone named Holly Johnson involved, which sounds like one of my favorite stars of Santa's Lil' Helpers 8: Snowballin'. For reals, though, Gaps, Sinkholes and Chasms is an art exhibit featuring the narrative, deep cobalt blue oil paintings of Gael Stack. Her work has been featured in the Guggenheim, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Yale University art gallery. Stack's exhibit is at the Holly Johnson Gallery, 1411 Dragon St, through February 9. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,Tuesdays through Saturdays. Visit hollyjohnsongallery.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Jan. 5. Continues through Feb. 9, 2008
