Take Your Pix

Critics support up and coming artists

Are you a Jerry Bruckheimer film, or are you a Gus Van Sant film? In the movie version of your fascinating, brilliant self, do you feature Nicolas Cage at the height of his ass-kicking action flick career, or an unknown pair of precocious Bostonians named Matt and Ben? If even your critics love you, chances are you're a Van Sant. If you're popular beyond belief but the cool kids won't give you the time of day, look out for flying debris, because you're a Bruckheimer vehicle. Regardless, folks in both camps will likely enjoy Pix2, an exhibition of under-the-radar but critically acclaimed artists (think of our friend Gus, pre-Good Will Hunting) at the University of Texas at Dallas. Local art critics from Glasstire, Art Papers and Art in America have chosen their favorite unsung artists to feature in the exhibit, which includes drawings, paintings, installations and multimedia from the likes of Kim Cadmus Owens, Amy Revier, Peter Calvin and more. The show is in the Visual Arts Building at UTD, 800 W. Campbell Road in Richardson and it runs Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through February 22. Call 972-UTD-ARTS
Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: Jan. 18. Continues through Feb. 22, 2008
