Looking at Eddie Griffin's filmography, there is not much to be proud of, which really isn't too surprising. Seriously, comedians make some of the dumbest movies. But he is the star of one of my all-time favorite indulgences, Undercover Brother. This really bad homage to 70s blaxploitation cinema/Austin Powers knockoff was Griffin at his best, all goofy, toothy grin and cool but oblivious attitude. Since then, Griffin's film work reads like a nominee list at the Razzies: Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Date Movie and Norbit, aka the reason Eddie Murphy didn’t win an Oscar. Even if the sequel is bad, which it probably will be, some of us wait with bated breath for the return of the Brother. In the meantime, stick to the stand-up Mr. Griffin—and forget the movies, because we have. Eddie Griffin brings his comedy act to the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road, Friday and Saturday with sets at both 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Call 972-404-8501 for reservations and further information.
