Super Bowl XLII, Glendale. Tickets—$700 and up. Munchies and souvenirs—$200 minimum. Supper Bowl IX (or Empty Bowls as the North Texas Food Bank calls it), Meyerson Symphony Center, downtown Dallas. Tickets—$25 ($30 at the door). Munchies and souvenirs—$0 extra. Watching more than 1,000 people share in an annual life-saving event—a heck of a lot cheaper and more personally satisfying (in a "food demand is up 17% among the 764 North Texas programs we're supporting" kinda way). Top local chefs vie for one of 25 donor stations offering fresh bread, soup and dessert creations. (How does Grilled-Corn Bisque or Callebaut Chocolate Soup with Port-Braised Strawberries sound? Classic.) It's the best lunch buffet deal in town, drawing more fans each year. Come early, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, and get best pick from thousands of complimentary wood or ceramic hand-crafted bowls donated by local artists and students.
