Experts urge parents to read to their offspring, touting it as a bonding activity and a way to strengthen kids' reading skills. What they don't tell you is how boring it is to read the same book over and over again. Our kids demand that we reread, say, Everyone Poops until they memorize it word for word, yet still laugh at every gag. Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones series is among the few sources of kiddie lit that cracks me up along with my kids night after night. Here's a typical Junie B. observation: "A crib is a bed with bars on the side of it. It's kind of like a cage at the zoo. Except with a crib, you can put your hand through the bars. And the baby won't pull you in and kill you." I hope the theatrical adaptation, with stories from Miss Jones' Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal, lives up to the books. Performances of Junie B. Jones are at 7 p.m. Fridays, 2 or 7 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays through March 9 at Casa Mañana’s Children’s Playhouse, 101 W. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth.
