Net Gain

Kidd and Co. take it to the Nets

Two and a half weeks after exchanging eight players in one of the most dramatic trades in Dallas sports history, the Mavericks and the New Jersey Nets face each other on the hardwood. I don't have anything to add to the trade discussion. But I always wonder what goes through the minds of recently traded athletes when they first face their former team. They always say the right things to the media's generic "How much more meaningful is tonight's game?" questions, with answers like, "Once the game starts, you forget about all that and just go out and try to get a win." But seriously, how do you unlearn that many years of playing with the same guys? I'm pretty sure I'd accidentally pass to one of my former teammates at least once, just out of habit. Imagine former Maverick Devin Harris dishing an assist to Dirk Nowitzki, then slapping his forehead as he realizes what he’s done. I'd buy tickets just to see that. Oh, and also to watch the Mavs beat the pathetic Nets until they piss blood like Jason Kidd's former wife (allegedly). Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Airlines Center. If non-scalper tickets are still available, you will find them at ticketmaster.com.
