Circle Around

Intimacy is revisited at the Amon Carter

Back in the 1940s, a small group of creative types called themselves the Fort Worth Circle Artists. Started by a mere four students from the FW School of Fine Arts, they probably had no idea that Cowtown would be kicking Dallas' ass in the arts and museum scene the next six decades. Ouch. The Circle Artists are in the midst of a comeback, with the Amon Carter Museum presenting some 100 pieces on display (and some for the first time in almost 50 years). To add another number to that, it's been 20-plus years since the Circle has displayed a major body of work. Intimate Modernism: Fort Worth Circle Artists in the 1940s will be on display until May 11, but in the meantime, the museum is peppering the exhibition with added events such as family fun days, lectures and even staged performances to enhance the viewing pleasure of works created by the first colony of artists in Texas. Despite such historic qualities, their legacy was widely missed. Until now. Don't miss this small piece of history at the Amon Carter Musuem, 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd. For further information on the exhibit and its events, call 817-738-1933 or visit cartermuseum.org.
