She Dances On

Sara Evans ditches the tube and goes live

Country singer Sara Evans was well on her way to being the next Faith Hill. Starting out as a fairly modest act, a string of hits and crossover appeal transformed her into a glammed-out artist. That was before 2006. Someone must not have told her that Dancing With the Stars was for celebrities on the way down instead of on the way up. She joined the third season along with the likes of D-listers Jerry Springer and Joey Lawrence, but her stint on the show was eclipsed by a nasty divorce from her creepy husband that prompted her to bail out of the competition early. President Bush even publicly blasted her for cutting and running. She then confirmed her status as a second-rate celebrity by joining the DWTS tour. Can anyone take her seriously now? She has a lot of regrouping to do considering those bad choices and debacles, but thankfully she has the talent. With a strong voice as clear as crystal and potential pizzazz, she could break out of the mediocre corner she's backed herself into and join the other stratospheric pop/country divas, where she belongs. In support of her greatest hits release, Sara Evans performs 8 p.m. Saturday at the Majestic Theater, 1925 Elm St. For tickets, visit tickemaster.com or liveatthemajestic.com.
Sat., March 29, 8 p.m., 2008
