The DCT brings important fare to the table
What is it about Hollywood gossip shows that keep us watching? They're like eating whipped cream straight out of the container—tasty but not much substance. Periodically, though, these shows serve up some less savory fare. Disturbing images of Holocaust-thin actresses and models in the last stages of anorexia flash across the screen and give us a glimpse into the mystifying world of eating disorders. The Dallas Children's Theater's Young Adult Relevant Drama's new play, EAT (It's Not about Food), shows how this horror show has crept out of the TV screen and into the homes of many families, taking us into the secret world of teenagers who struggle with eating disorders. Through their stories we begin to discover some of the causes and warning signs of the disease as well as its awful consequences. Following the play there will be a guided post-show discussion to talk about these issues and to let parents and teens in on where to find help should the play hit close to home.
