The Carson of Denton

Live from Hailey's, it's Ed Forman!

Matt Foley has been reincarnated. Chris Farley's beloved motivational speaker has emerged from the van down by the river and found a fresh reinterpretation via Ed Forman, an equally greasy and disheveled looking guy who hosts his own live (non-televised) talk show. Forman, the alter-ego of comedian Aaron Ross, brings his message of inspiration and motivation to audiences from his perch on the host's chair. Drawing from '70s-era Johnny Carson and Dick Cavett style shows—back when celebrity self-promotion took a back seat to personality and polyester suits deserved co-host status—Forman combines improv, music, interviews and sketch comedy as he preaches the gospel of being the best you possible. The Denton installment will include Forman's sidekick Bobby Mickey and musical guest 10 Cent Beer Night Riot. Special guests include photographer Andrew Giles and burlesque dancer Mick Rock, who will subject themselves to motivational themed interrogations . It's over the top, it's surprisingly highbrow, and Forman's swingin' suits, oversized wire glasses and sage advice would make Chris Farley proud. The Ed Forman Show will perform for a live (non)studio audience at Hailey's (122 Mulberry St.) at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $5 to $7.
