5K Safari

During a routine visit to the Fort Worth Zoo several weeks ago, a few odd creatures in particular caught my eye. One was a man tossing Cheetos to the orangutans, right in front of the "Don't feed the animals" sign. Another was a little boy hanging out in the "Parrot Paradise" aviary who cleverly used his nectar-and-seed stick as a weapon against unsuspecting parakeets. But best of all was the tomato frog, who I met in the herpetarium. (He really looks like a tomato. Seriously.) So imagine how excited I got when I found out this year's Zoo Run Run funds will be used to do research to reintroduce frogs like Mr. Tomatohead (that's what I named him) into their native habitats! If you're into helping wildlife conservation, or if you just really like running, sign up for the Zoo Run Run 10K, 5K or 1-mile Fun Run, which all take place this Saturday at the Fort Worth Zoo. Entry fees are $23 to $30 per person, and you can find more information about race day at fortworthzoo.org.
