Close Encounters of the Metal KindSee UFO at HOBBy John FreemanPublished on April 17, 2008 at 12:40amUFO was the band that your cool older brother would blast in his van while smoking weed and drinking Coors. While not a household name like your Sabbaths or Zepplins, they were still one of the most influential hard rock bands of the 1970s. Their 1974 album, Phenomenon, helped build the denim and leather bridge between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal thanks in no small part to German guitar superhero and former Scorpion Michael Schenker. His hot shit skills gave UFO a reputation for being a ballbusting live act. Fourteen live albums later, they must be doing something right. Today, UFO continues to drive down the Camaro strewn highway that Schenker helped pave, leaving fringe-jacketed fans screaming for more. Come check out UFO 8 p.m. Wednesday at The House of Blues and bring your older brother. Visit hob.com for details.
