The Croissant Club
Every time I think of the work of Molière I can't help but also think of John Hughes' The Breakfast Club: specifically the scene in which Judd Nelson's John Bender sits on a card catalog "re-alphabetizing" the cards, pausing at one to drawl, "Moe-lay really pumps my nads." Oddly, The Breakfast Club ain't too far off from Molière's work The Misanthrope, in its discussion of society, hypocrisy, the class system and the torment of basic attraction to a smart, beautiful woman. See for yourself (just expect 17th-century French aristocracy instead of sarcastic teens) when the Dallas Theater Center produces The Misanthrope through May 18. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 7:30 p.m. select Sundays. Tickets are $15 to $60.
