There's Always Room For Othello

In 2001, a Dawson's Creek version of Othello, called O, was released. I think old Bill Shakespeare would’ve loved it. A remix of Othello centered on high school basketball star Odin James, and featuring Josh Hartnett as Iago and Julia Stiles as Desdemona? What's not to love? Shakespeare Dallas' summer 2008 rendition of the play promises to be a bit more thought-provoking. The company revives Shakespeare's epic portrayal of revenge, jealousy and deceit by transporting Othello, Iago and the rest of the gang to 1920s Venice. And here's the best part: It's done in film-noir fashion. I already have visions of Othello meets Chinatown, with Cassio opening up Roderigo's nostril with a switchblade. Find out what Shakespeare Dallas' Othello has in store for the green-eyed Moor on Wednesday and June 12, when they hold previews of the show. The play will then run every Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday from June 22 through July 26 at the Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre, 1500 Tenison Parkway. Saturday tickets run $10 for adults, $4 for seniors and students. A $10 donation is requested for all other dates. Curtain is at 8:15 p.m. Visit shakespearedallas.com.
Wed., June 11, 8:15 p.m.; Thu., June 12, 8:15 p.m.; Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 8:15 p.m. Starts: June 11. Continues through July 26, 2008
