Bacon Bonanza

Take your kids to a pig party

My mother was a children's librarian, and I am currently a reference librarian in a small public library, so I know children's books. But even though I really like kids and they tend to be my favorite patrons to deal with, I am far from the children's librarian type. Yes, I would like to read the dictionary. No, I would not like to conduct a storytime. Still, there are some picture books that even I enjoy. Much like a good kids' cartoon, a good picture book has aspects of cleverness that only adults truly get; not leaving kids out (that would be silly), but not underestimating their intelligence. And the illustrations have to be great. Laura Numeroff's If You Give series is all that and more. Each of the books is a new adventure in the tradition of I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Now Dallas Children's Theater is presenting the third stage adaptation of a Numeroff book with If You Give a Pig a Party. Complete with songs and colorful costumes, this is a family event recommended for ages 3 and up and runs through May 25. DCT is at 5938 Skillman St. Call 214-740-0051 or go to dct.org for showtimes and tickets.
Fridays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 1:30 p.m.; Sundays, 1:30 & 4:30 p.m. Starts: May 9. Continues through May 25, 2008
