Two things that can never be mentioned in the same breath without triggering the gag reflex: "John Waters" and "dump." I bet I know the first image that juxtaposition conjured in your mind: the infamous closing scene from Waters' Pink Flamingos. Even if you haven't seen the movie, you probably know exactly what the drag queen Divine does with a dog's fresh dump. Well, try to clear that image from your mind, because in this case, "dump" refers to one of the subjects depicted in the Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery's latest group photography exhibition. The exhibition explores the concept of home by questioning the statements "There's no place like home" and "Home is where the heart is," and examines how living spaces reflect the personalities of their dwellers. Among the artists are Misty Keasler, whose photos taken in the Guatemala City dump show homes crudely constructed of found materials, and Tom Atwood, who photographed gay men (including Waters) in their homes for his book Kings in Their Castles.
