Something In the Water

Eleven Hundred Springs distills Texas at the Granada

There is a kinda of ineffable something in Texas that makes it tick. It might have something to do with being in between the two coasts—a sort of both-of-those yet none-of-those and completely all-its-own vibe. Done wrong you get a wannabe syndrome exemplified in Nuevo Rich Dallas. Done right the finger shoots at everyone and something unique is born. It's an attitude personified in ZZ Top, Zorlac skateboards and Eleven Hundred Springs. Former rock guys playing country music, Eleven Hundred Springs goes towards the "good" side of country—not the new Nashville pop sounds mind you, but the stuff that can come from anywhere there are broken hearts and empty bottles of beer. The adornments of hats, pedal steel and fiddle make it country but their music is just as much rock, boogie, blues, waltz and rave-up. Hell, the attitude is as rock-and-roll as anything else these days. So this working band finds an audience with punks, hipsters, boomers, bikers, and college kids who will all come together at the Granada Theater for the band's 10 Year Anniversary Party. Join in on the fun 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $12 to $15. Call 214-824-9933 or visit granadatheater.com for more information.
