We Are Addison

See McConaughey coach football

The city of Addison believes that We Are Marshall is one of your "favorite sports movies of all time." Fortunately for Addison, if you are a woman, aged 8 to 80, blind, crippled or crazy, it probably is. Unfortunately, the reason this is true has less to do with the compelling story of Marshall University and its heart-wrenching struggle to cope with the airplane crash that claimed almost the entire football team, and more to do with the very real possibility that Matthew McConaughey might take his shirt off. Throw in Matthew Fox as the hunky assistant coach, and there is a good chance a panty or two might be thrown at the screen this Saturday. That's when Addison will kick off its Cinema in the Circle 2008 at the Addison Circle Park Bowl Stage, 4970 Addison Circle Drive. For five consecutive Saturdays, sports movies will be shown on a large, open-air screen at 9 p.m. The free event hopes to snare families interested in a picnic on the grass while engrossing themselves in McConaughey's, er, acting? Have no fear, though, the other movies playing are pretty respectable and include The Sandlot, Rocky and Rudy. As a Fourth of July bonus, Addison will provide a free fireworks display before the last showing on July 3. Visit addisontexas.net.
Sat., June 7, 9 p.m., 2008
