Evo-UmlaufThe mentor and artist shares his landscapesBy Michelle MatthewsPublished on June 14, 2008 at 12:45amA somewhat nasty and ungrateful adage says, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." While this may apply to Catholic school nuns, it cannot be said of Karl Umlauf, an artist who for more than 40 years has been proving that he can, he does and he teaches. His work in multiple media -- including pastel, oil paint, cast paper and sculpture -- speaks of both natural and manmade landscapes. Trains, drainpipes and abstract forms capture the textures of mechanical structures and the inescapable symmetry of the world around us in rich earth tones. Fort Worth Community Arts Center presents Karl Umlauf: Natural Evolution through June 28 at 1300 Gendy St. in Fort Worth. The center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Call 817-738-1938.
