Slam

I've always hated musicals, so naturally I've also always been highly suspicious of other forms of entertainment marketed to the same audience, be it Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil or Riverdance. So as a high school senior back in 1999, I was naturally perturbed when my girlfriend decided she wanted to go see Stomp, all the way over in Fort Worth, no less. I wasn't so mad about the price of the tickets—we got those for free somehow; I just didn't understand how entertaining it could be to watch guys bang on trash cans for 30 minutes -- it really was somethin'. Unfortunately a Stomp show is, like, two hours long. But hey, if you've got a major boner for percussion, you can't go wrong checking out the newest version of the show Tuesday through Sunday, June 22, at the Music Hall at Fair Park. And to be fair, it's not all trash cans -- I think I remember some matchbook shaking and banging of PVC pipes, as well. Performances are at 8 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on June 21 and 22. Tickets are $11 to $71. Call 214-421-5678 or visit dallassummermusicals.org.
June 17-22, 8 p.m.; June 21-22, 2 p.m., 2008
