Robin Armstrong is my new hero. Along with directing and designing Tom Sime's scary comedy (scare-medy?), Bloodletters, she is also the Violence Choreographer. Seriously, turning savage knife play or drive-by shootings into a poetic ballet is my new dream. I'll get a glimpse of it in Sime's play about Grace, (who writes horror fiction), her daughter Valerie (who's a bit on the jealous side of her success) and her granddaughter (who might have just tapped into one of her grandmother's deep dark secrets). I don't imagine much Crouching Tiger action going on but it's Sime's parallel story that could get the adrenaline flowing. Grace's fictional world comes to life in a simultaneous drama surrounding her horny vampire character, Tyrone. Scary, funny, violent -- sounds worthwhile, so check it. Bloodletters plays through June 29 at Teatro Dallas, 1331 Record Crossing Road. For tickets and show times, call 1-800-595-4849 or visit themodernstage.com.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: June 12. Continues through June 29, 2008
