Cheeky

Ron paints it straight at Valley House

By Andrea Grimes

Published on June 26, 2008

Ever since that Jackson guy started spilling his paint cans on canvases and calling it art, art itself has become harder and harder to figure out. Is the spilled orange juice on my bright red coffee table cause for Brawny, or ready to be sold for $25,000 to the DMA? If you're turned off by this kind of post-post-post-hoo-hah-and-what-not artistic posturing, best to check out Ron Cheek's upcoming exhibit at the Valley House Gallery. Cheek paints hyper real, classic works rich in color and texture—with actual faces and other people parts. The exhibit, Recent Paintings (From the Valley of Vision), runs through July 5 at the Valley House, 6616 Spring Valley Road. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and admission is free. Visit valleyhouse.com.
Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: June 30. Continues through July 5, 2008
