Tom Sime stages a farewell comedy

Talk about a wild ride. After 16 years as a theater critic, Tom Sime is now an award-winning playwright about to make the jump from Dallas to New York. Before he heads out, he'll be giving us the second of a one-two theatrical punch. Earlier this summer, he premiered Bloodletters, a thriller of a play with sexy vampires and distraught writers. Now he's going for more laughs than chills with My Favorite Animal, a comedy about psychotherapist Jerry and his new client, Randi--a woman with some mystery behind her. Isn't that always the case? Sime delves deeper as Jerry tries to solve the mystery of Randi, who is apparently much more than she seems. How about that for vague titillation? My question, though, is whether or not lead actor Josh Hepola is related to former Observer music editor Sarah Hepola? And if so, can we get a discount? The Modern Stage presents My Favorite Animal at Teatro Dallas, 1331 Record Crossing Road, through August 24. For tickets and showtimes, call 800-595-4849 or visit themodernstage.com.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Aug. 15. Continues through Aug. 24, 2008
