He spent 24 years in the U.S. Congress, famously co-leading one of the largest CIA covert operations ever. He holds the Afghan Freedom Medal and is the only civilian to hold the CIA award as "Honored Colleague." He has been the subject of controversy and literature and has now been immortalized by Tom Hanks in an Academy Award-nominated movie. Texas native Charlie Wilson will be the featured speaker at TCU's annual Jim Wright Symposium at the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom on campus. The event takes place at noon Wednesday, and the $25 admission includes lunch and lecture, as well as admission to a screening of The True Story of Charlie Wilson (straight doc, no Hanks) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
