Iron Eagles

See the fighter planes of yesteryear

How to tell if you're a dude (in case there's any doubt): You consider bacon appropriate as an appetizer, entree and dessert dish; you bought a DVD burner just so you could save all the episodes of Shockwave on The History Channel; and, finally, going to see "Warbirds on Parade," a display of World War II airplanes and other aircraft, memorabilia, classic cars and additional dude stuff sounds like a good way to celebrate your wedding anniversary. (It is not.) Seriously, dude, load the kids up into the family truckster and head out to the Lancaster Airport, 730 Ferris Road at Belt Line Road, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. Among the 35 to 40 aircraft on display will be a WWII Corsair--that's the plane Robert Conrad flew on the '70s TV show Baa Baa Black Sheep--and a Russian Hind D, the helicopter seen in Rambo. Fighter planes! Rides in a vintage air transport and trainer (available with a donation)! That, my friends, is a full day of fun, so you better pack a lunch. Perhaps a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. "Warbirds on Parade" is presented by the Commemorative Air Force DFW Wing. Suggested donation for attending the show--the non-flying part--is $10 per carload or $5 per person. Visit dfwwing.com for more info.
Sat., Sept. 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2008
