The city's plan is to build an expressway down the middle of that pipe. There is no way to do that without clogging the pipe. If you clog the pipe, you risk pushing the waters higher until they spill over the levees, then rip the levees down and send rampaging floods through downtown or Oak Cliff or both.

The fact that the toll road is being held up by the environmental impact studies is serious and scary. The fact that the Calatrava bridge is being delayed by engineering and money problems is significant. And, if I may say, hilarious.

But the really important fact, embedded in all of this, is that we have idiots steering the ship. You may call that sour grapes. I think of it as a fine wine, aging in the barrel. I'm planning my little tasting for some time in 2012. That's my motto. No sour grape before its time.

You know, I never liked the Calatrava bridges - they seem fake and out of place to me. My wife uses the term "a whore wearing all her jewelry" to describe the way the Dallas and her elites are salavating over these silly, needless, artificial, meaningless things. Vapid, I believe, is the accurate word.

Well it would really be ashame if the whole Trinity river boondoggle was stopped by a snail darter type edict from the EPA. Wouldn't it.

Although I agree with you that the tollroad most likely won't get built (better than the alternative) I have to disagree with your views on the bridges. They clearly stated that the problem was resolved and they are set on a price. I think you are being a little too critical. I know it's your job to be cynical and ill-tempered but could you try to lighten up a little bit, for all our sakes. Plus you are misleading in this article when you say only two bridges are funded for. There are lots of factors of this project already funded for, even things they have already started on like the Adubon center and Moore park. So could you for once please make it seem like you might want the project to succeed.

Sour Grapes - I want to remind Jim that I told him at the watch party we had won the war, that the election was just a battle. Through Jim's & Sam Merten's great writings during the campaign, the news got out to people about the risk and cost of this Trinity folly. More importantly, other towns and states saw how much money was being sucked into Dallas Trinity Projected when their projects were not being funded. There's more than one way to win a war. Now, Jim can start being humorous again. We all miss his humor.
