Sex and the Big D

Candace Bushnell speaks in Richardson

Walking through Neiman Marcus I inevitably end up in the menagerie of wonder that is the shoe section. As my fingers run over the Manolos and Christian Louboutins, my mind takes me to my favorite image. The one where I am wearing one of these gorgeous creations and strutting--yes, I said strutting--into my editor's office at Vogue. The glossy mag is strewn all over her desk, but she looks up at me and sweetly (hey, this is my dream) tells me to pitch my latest, thrilling idea. My recurring daydream is a direct result of an obsession with Sex and the City and, more specifically, with my fictional writing mentor, Carrie Bradshaw. Luckily, Carrie Bradshaw really exists, that is, as the alter ego of her creator Candace Bushnell. Even better--Bushnell will be doing a reading and interview as part of The Writer's Studio (held in Charles W. Eisemann Center at 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson) Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $38; call 214-828-1715 or visit writersgarret.org.
