Better Be Good To Her

Tina Turner struts her stuff at AAC

One of my earliest childhood memories involves being left with a babysitter so that my parents could go see a Tina Turner concert. My babysitter was particularly morose because her idol, Sid Vicious, had just died. The fact that I remember this means that a) I am old and b) Tina Turner has been touring long enough to collect a pension and a gold watch. My mother still talks about that concert, too--how Turner belted out numbers while simultaneously balancing in 3-inch stilettos and wearing a leather skirt that was little more than a tourniquet. Apparently, seeing Tina live has always been something of a religious experience for rock and roll fans--knowing that the woman went through hell and back and yet still summons the energy to move those fabulous legs all over the stage just seems to have an effect on people. And speaking of those legs: They're nearly 70 years old, and they could still dance Miley Cyrus under a table. Tina will probably tour well into her 90s at this rate, but nonetheless, this is a show that shouldn't be missed. Tina sings everything from "Proud Mary" to "What's Love Got To Do With It" Saturday at American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Avenue, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.
