Jackson Browne has been through many phases in his long and illustrious career. He started off as a songwriter for, among others, the ultimate West Coast band, The Eagles. Then Jackson ventured out on his own, having chart success as early as 1972. He was the poster boy for the whole West Coast singer-songwriter thing. He never lingered at the top of the charts like his California buddies, but he remains a solid staple of classic rock radio. If you take a car trip that lasts more that an hour, you are bound to hear "Doctor My Eyes." Browne has also been in the news recently because the McCain campaign decided to use "Running on Empty" as a campaign song without asking first (not that there's a snowball's chance in hell Browne would have agreed). He was pissed. And you don't want an angry Jackson Browne on your hands. He just might "Hulk out" and rip your head off. Many folks remember his numerous radio hits, but for people of my generation, the song "Somebody's Baby" and the way it was used in Fast Times at Ridgemont High is as formative as Tom Petty's "American Girl" in Silence of the Lambs is to the younger kids.
