Nixon, the Composer

Hopkins shows off his musical side

There are few people out there who are as badass as Anthony Hopkins--excuse me, Sir Anthony Hopkins to us layfolk. Right now his résumé reads like every aspiring actor's wish list: With more than 100 screen and stage credits to his name, the Oscar/BAFTA/Golden Globe/Emmy Award-winning actor has played everything from kings (Richard the Lionheart in 1968's The Lion in Winter) to killers (everyone's favorite cannibal Hannibal), and from the looks of it, his creative streak isn't ending anytime soon. In addition to his forays into directing, producing and screenwriting, Hopkins is also a painter and a music composer. Although the DMA doesn't have a Hopkins in its collection (yet), Dallas is getting an even better treat this weekend as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents An Evening of Music With Anthony Hopkins & the DSO: A World Premiere, featuring his original compositions along with highlights from his film career. By the looks of it, Sir Anthony is well on his way to that Grammy, and you can witness history in the making with this once-in-a-lifetime experience when Hopkins takes to the stage 8 p.m. Friday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Tickets are $35 to $75.
