Fleming illustrates in Irving

The 1998 film Can't Hardly Wait is like Kevin Bacon: Everything in the universe can be connected to it in six degrees or less. For example, three of the film's leading actors went on to star on Six Feet Under together. And you know the Judd Apatow flick Forgetting Sarah Marshall? The film's star, Jason Segel, appeared in Can't Hardly Wait in a tiny role known as "Watermelon Guy." It can even be connected to the new Painting With Paper exhibition at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. Check this out: The artist, children's author and illustrator Denise Fleming, shares her name with Lauren Ambrose's too-cool-for-school character in the film. See? It's magic! The exhibit features Fleming's original book illustrations on handmade paper, and it'll be on display through December 28. For gallery hours and information, visit irvingartscenter.com.
