Has there ever been a better time to embrace the story of a dashing vigilante who sweeps in and evens the score for the downtrodden? Actually, there probably has...all things considered, most of us aren't reduced to eating stale bread like they did in the heyday of Robin Hood. Yet. But the classic tale of "robbing the rich to feed the poor" probably sounds like a good idea in these times of corporate excess and spiraling personal debt. God knows if they still had it, many of us would be cooling our heels in debtors' prison right now just waiting for Robin Hood to raid the coffers of JP Morgan Chase and pay off our damn student loans. Dare to dream. In the meantime, we can appreciate the legend that is Robin Hood and pass on the message of, uh, vigilante justice to our children as the Garland Civic Theater stages its production of the beloved tale. The Children On Stage play features a delightful young cast (probably too carefree to appreciate the sad resonance of the tale right now, but that's a good thing) and will be performed at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets to Robin Hood at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. in Garland, are $11 for matinees and $12 for the evening performance. Call 972-205-2790 for tickets.
