The DSO takes on Disney classics

We all have our dirty little secrets. Some people dress up in women's clothes like J. Edgar Hoover; some people tell their vegetarian children that the cow they are eating is a soy burger. Some people just love Disney stuff. They've seen every movie; they've been to Disney World more than once, or twice, or seven times. They know most every song, from the one that Sean Connery sang in Darby O'Gill and the Little People to the more mainstream vocal renderings of Sebastian the crab extolling the virtues of life under the sea. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is having a concert that caters to just these people. Conducted by Richard Kaufman, the group will be performing the music of Disney from classics like The Little Mermaid and Cinderella (and also Pinocchio, but I can't list that as a plus because I hate that movie. What's more disturbing than being swallowed by a whale? Seeing a wooden boy--and I've never understood how this was possible--turn into a donkey thing. Yikes.) The concert will entail listening to the music while original artwork from the films appears on the screen at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Tickets are $22 to $105. The show begins starts at 8 p.m. Visit dallassymphony.com.
Fri., Oct. 31, 8 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 1, 8 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 2, 2:30 p.m., 2008
