Dirk Cussler is the son and protege of author Clive Cussler, as well as the namesake of his father's famous protagonist, Dirk Pitt. In fact, father and son have co-written the past few Pitt novels, including the latest installment in the best-selling series, Arctic Drift. In this adventure, Dirk--the character, not the son--is thrown into the middle of a conflict between the U.S and Canada over energy. The last time someone imagined war between the U.S. and Canada, we were gifted with Michael Moore's brilliant B-movie Canadian Bacon, starring the late John Candy as Sheriff Bud Boomer. If the Cusslers even approach that greatness, they're sure to have another best-seller on their hands. Father and son sign Arctic Drift 7 p.m. Thursday at Barnes & Noble, 7700 West Northwest Highway. Call 214-739-1124.
