The classic 1984 movie Footloose means lots of things to lots of people. It's an inspiring tale of what one teenager with a dream can accomplish. It made the amazing Kevin Bacon a household name. It gave small town kids the courage to stand up for their right to dance, dance, dance. For me, dear reader, when I think Footloose, I think two words: Kenny Loggins. The king of inspirational movie soundtrack music put an exclamation point on this movie with his super-amazing ultra-rad theme song. Well, the >Footloose musical being presented by Garland Civic Theatre has new music and lyrics written in part by Dean Pitchford, the writer of the original film. The exciting news is that it is also loaded with tunes by Loggins, Sammy Hagar and Jim Steinman. So not only do you get to see an amazing story of triumph over oppression, you get your asses rocked off in a major way. Footloose is running through Saturday at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N 5th St. in Garland. Visit Garlandcivictheatre.org for more details.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 30, 2:30 p.m.; Thu., Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 6, 2:30 p.m. Starts: Nov. 28. Continues through Dec. 6, 2008
