Blue Yule might be a super-apt description for Christmas this year, given the financial dire straits many of us are finding ourselves in right now. Between layoffs, escalating prices on almost everything and dwindling stock portfolios, it's a little hard to find yourself in the Christmas spirit. And gift-giving this year? Let's just say that the stockings will be a little lighter than in years past. Shoppers will be looking for the most bang for our bucks, and if you can get in a little gift-scouting combined with philanthropy and entertainment...that's a total score. Blue Yule is a savvy fund-raiser put on by the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (MAC), 3120 McKinney Ave., that combines an evening of jazz from renowned percussionist Jamal Mohamed; an auction for an array of perfect Christmas gift items donated by area stores, salons and restaurants; and a wonderland of one-of-a-kind ornaments hand-decorated by local artists. Drinks (including a mystery punch sure to make your pocketbook woes fuzzy) and snacks are provided, and all proceeds will benefit the artistic and educational endeavors of the MAC throughout the year. The price of admission is a very reasonable $20 at the door. The event runs from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Call 214-953-1212 or visit the-mac.org for more information.
